The oldest student in the world, 83 year old Galyna Chernova, who lives in Simferopol, Ukraine is looking forward for the beginning of the school year. Last year she entered the economy faculty of the Crimean Institute of Economics and Business Law. Galina mentioned, that it is kind of funny and at the same time sad to learn the economy of the country, which really doesn’t have the economy now. But, she said, it is interesting for her to study.
On July 2009 the ethnological centre Cossack village Mamayeva Sloboda was open in Kyiv, Ukraine. It’s address is 2, Mykhaylo Dontsya Street, not too far from the metro stop Shulyavs’ka (red line). Mamayeva Sloboda is a bright embodiment of glorious Cossack tradition, which can be spotted in architecture and also in the landscape.

For all those, who is still thinking to have a ride by Funicular (funikuler) in Kyiv, Ukraine, we recommed to hurry up. On the 1st of September it will be closed. Kyivpastrans representatives say that Funicular will be closed only for its regular annual maintenance and will be reopened in a month. Specialists will check the mechanism and its details and replace parts if needed. They say it will take not more than one month, but if they find more serious problems, it might take longer.
Because of the bad condition if their equipment and lack of money for the maintenance, famouse Kiev byuvets (or in english – water wells) are being closed. “Kyivvodokanal” has already closed 81 byuvets in Solomyansky, Podilsky, partially Shevchenkivsky and Obolonsky districts! This process was started in July 2009.
There are about 224 byuvet complexes in Kyiv.
Koktebel Jazz Festival – 10-13.09.2009

The festival gathers famous jazz names and their fans from Ukraine, Russia and other countries.
This year it features Tequilajazz, Funky Soul Band, Oi Va Voi and Courtney Pine from the UK, Alissidjazz from Russia, Djabe from Hungary, Voo Voo from Poland, and Ukrainian Haydamaky, Pur Pur, Denis Adu Quintet, 2 Sleepy and others.
British hotel group InterContinental opened 5-star hotel InterContinental in Kiev on 2A, Velyka Zhytomyrska Street on the 27th of August, 2009. It is is conveniently located in the very center of Kiev, with walking distance from famous Khreshchatik Street, St.Michael’s and Saint Sophia Cathedrals and just next to the Hyatt Regency Kyiv. Leon Larkin, the general manager of the Intercontinental hotel informed the journalists about the Hotel opening.
