On the 9th September 2009 “Ukrayinski Novitni Tehnologii” (Ukraine High Technologies) has launched the first in Ukraine 4G network based on Mobile WiMAX technology in test mode. It is planned that by the 1st of November this network will cover all Kyiv and its suburbs. By the end of 2010 it should cover the territory, where about ten million Ukrainians work and live.
International Jazz Festival «Jazz in Kiev 2009» will take place in Kyiv on 16, 17 and 18 October, 2009
The main concert stage will remain the same: International Center of Culture and Arts (Zhovtnevy Palats), where Grammy Award Winners Dave Holland and Al Jarreau peformed among others last year.
Ukraine takes the first place in the world ratings of alcohol consumption among children and youth, according to the World Health Organization research.
In fact, Ukrainian children start drinking alcohol when they are 10 – 13 years old. So, no wonder, that according to the statistics of Ministry of Health of Ukraine about 60% of children poisoning is caused by alcohol. If it goes like this in future, Ukrainians take all chances to become the drunkiest nation on the planet.
Mayor of Kyiv Leonid Chernovetsky is going to sign an anti-alcohol program for 2009-2013, which will come into effect soon afterwards.
According to this program sales of alcoholic beverages will be banned in Kyiv center on such streets as Khreschatik, Baseina, Mykhayilivs’ka, Sofyivs’ka, Prorisna, Kostyol’na, provulok Shevchenka, Instytuts’ka, Bogdana Khmel’nytskoho, Gorodets’koho, Boulevard Shevchenko.
In order to reduce pressure on hryvnia rate the National Bank of Ukraine decided to impose a ban on foreign currency credits in Ukraine. Bankers discussed such aspects with NBU during their closed meeting on Friday, 4th September.
Don’t miss International music festival “Koktebel Jazz”, which will be held from 10th till 13th September, 2009 at the Black Sea coast in a small Crimean town Koktebel.
There will be shows on two stages: solo concerts will be on a small “Voloshynska” stage, and jazz and world-music bands will play on a “NU Jazz” stage, which was built last year.
On the 12th September, during the Day of the City celebration, the 4th National Ukrainian Orthodox Festival of bell ringers «Dnipropetrovs’k ringing» will take place on Monastery Island (near by the St. Nicholas Cathedral) in Dnipropetrovs’k.
Professional bell-ringers and participants-amateurs from all over Ukraine will show the art of bell ringing.
Starting from the 1st January 2010 National Bank of Ukraine is going to seize from circulation ten and twenty hryvnia bills of 1994, 1995 and 2000.
On 5th and 6th September, 2009 «Prosvita» association organizes National Festival “Mazepa-Fest”, in memory of all Ukrainian cossacks, who died in Poltava Battle under hetman Ivan Mazepa leadership for freedom of Ukraine. Mazepa Fest will take place on Spivoche Pole Marusi Churai in Poltava.
Ukraine’s Kateryna Bondarenko beat American Shenay Perry 6:1 6:1 in Second Round US Open and became the only Ukraine representative at the Tournament.
In the First Round Kateryna beat the No.11 seed Ana Ivanovic from Serbia 2:6, 6:3, 7:6 (9:7).
