Morning river tram route is cancelled in Kiev. Now, city river ships will run only in the evenings. The cancellation reason is very simple: the river tram was nearly empty in the mornings , so there was no sense to keep in going. Instead, another evening route has been open. The ship will run from the berth at Obolon embankment (next to Prirechnaya Street) to Poshtova Ploscha and back.
Kyiv Municipal Administration and the Southwestern Railroad have launched operation of electric ( commuter ) trains between train stations “Troeschina” (Horodnia) and “Kyiv-Petrivka” in Kyiv on the 2nd September, 2009. This will enable residents of the Troeschyna district to travel to the Petrovka subway station faster and more comfortably.
“Great Antique Salon” will be held in Ukrainian House in Kyiv (2, Khreschatik Street) on the 5th -11th October, 2009. All visitors will be able to see the exhibition of Salvador Dali and Olexadra Ester works and the famous Rodin’s “Thinker” in its original size.
On the 2nd September, Ukrainian currency Hryvnia (also spelled as Hryvna or Grivna) celebrates its birthday. On this day, in 1996 according to Leonid Kuchma’s decree the currency reform has been started in Ukraine. The national Ukrainian currency Hryvnia and its 1/100 part Kopiyka have been put into circulation.
American Company Delta Airlines is cancelling very convenient and quite cheap straight flight Kyiv – New York from the 12th September, 2009. Last week Delta Airlines published the list of flights, which they are going to carry out during this fall and winter. Kiev – New York was not included in it. Representatives of the company say, that they’ll resume this flight next spring (starting from March, 28, 2010).
On the 1st of September students and teachers celebrate the Day of Knowledge. On this day bells are riniging in every school, college, institute, university, announcing about the beginning of a school year. It is a serious holiday for all children, but especially exciting it is for little kids, who are going to spend their first day at school.
Great festive program is prepared for Odessa’s 215th Birthday on September 2, 2009. It includes Art and Photo exhibitions, Rock Music Festival, Polish Cinema Festival, Street Theaters Festival, Grand Chess Festival and a Carnival March.
