Ukraine is among leaders of deaths in road accidents

Ukraine is among leaders of people killed in car accidents. “According to Forbs, Russia takes the first place of the number of people killed in road accident in 2008, and Ukraine takes the second one. There are 167 deaths per 1,000,000 (7690 deaths in total last year) in Ukraine, and there are 235 in Russia.

A real submarine SS-130 will be brought to Kyiv from Kherson, where a museum complex called “Peremoga” (Victory) dedicated to naval topics will be created. This submarine was given to Ukraine as a gift by Russia in 2000.

On the 25th October Ukraine is switching to winter time

On Sunday early morning 25th October, Ukraine is switching to winter time. At 4pm in the morning clocks have to be moved back one hour so we will “gain” an extra hour.
Change for winter time is realized according to the recommendation of the European Economic Commission UN, which extended the period of summer time from September until the last Sunday of October.

In Ukraine, starting on October, 14th, all mobile, local and international numbers will start from “0″ It means there is no need to dial “8″ before the phone number. Ukraine joins European communication standards.
Front “8″ in telephone numbers in Ukraine goes into the past. If you need to call Ukrainian mobile number, you’ll have to dial, for ex. just 050 for MTS or 067 for Kyivstar.

Kyiv authorities are going to choose one of the parks in the Ukrainian capital, where monuments of the Soviet era will be placed. For this purpose they offer a park of Alexander Pushkin. It is suggested to place monuments in sectors, which will display different periods of the Soviet history.

On the Day of Ukrainian Cossacks, October 14, 2009, the march of OUN UPA is planned to be held in Kyiv under the slogan “Bandera is our hero! Pokrova is our holiday!”. On Wednesday morning, 8th October, nearly all left bank of Kyiv was in smoke. A burn smell could be felt even in Posnyaki district. The fire has started on sludge fields of Bortnychi Aeration Station where sewage is cleaned (near Gnedin village, Boryspil district, Kyiv region).

Russian language is banned at schools in Ukraine!

Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution according to which teachers should speak only Ukrainian at schools with the teaching in Ukrainian language, even during breaks. It is obvious that the main purpose of this resolution is to eradicate Russian language at schools.
Ukrainian teachers from Russian speaking areas of Ukraine are indignant: “How are they going to control us?”

A unique wall-paintings of XVIII and XIX centuries have been open to the public in St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv. Since 60s these paintings have been hidden under a special layer of whitewash, as they say they were too bright in comparison with more ancient frescoes.
