On the 9th September 2009 “Ukrayinski Novitni Tehnologii” (Ukraine High Technologies) has launched the first in Ukraine 4G network based on Mobile WiMAX technology in test mode. Kirill Dmitriev, the managing partner and the president of Icon Private Equity (company, which invested into FreshTel) says, that Ukraine is lacking cheap, fast and available to all Internet. “Before the user had to choose between mobile or broadband Internet, but now there is FreshTel – not only fast but also wireless Internet,” tells Kirill.
Speed of data transmittion within FreshTel network goes up to 20Mbit/sec. It is seven times faster then 3G. Mobility is provided by the automated “sutureless” switch between base stations, like in GSM networks. Stable connection is available at speed up to 120km/hour
Networs characteristics provide an access to all modern internet-services: VoIP, high resolution videos, online TV, videoconferences, videocalls.
Now, this network covers only the central part of Kyiv. It is provided by 40 base stations ZTE, which work in 3,4 – 3,6 GHz range. By the end of October, 200 more stations will be connected to the network.
By the beginning of a commercial use FreshTel coverage will expand and include all territory of the Ukrainian capital and its suburbs Boryspil, Brovary and Vyshgorod.
It will be possible to buy USB modems ZTE AX320 and WiMAX/Wi-Fi routers ZTE IX380 at such chains as «Mobilochka», «ТТТ», «Allo», «Ringo», «Citicom», «Unitrade». By the end of the year several more devices, which support WiMax appear, including netbooks.
Everybody who gets the modem or router will get a free and unlimited network access till the 31st October. It’ll be a test period, during which the company counts on users comments for its improvement. “We’ll give as a present netbooks and prolong free access till the 31st March, 2010 to the most active testers,” says Yevgen Lysytsyn, the general director of UNT.
First tariffs will be the following: 3 UAH/day for an access at speed 512 Kb/sec, 5 UAH/day 1 Mb/sec and 10 UAH/day without any limitations up to what the network will allow.
All FreshTel packages are unlimited. USB modem will cost 890 UAH, router – 1890 UAH. Tested speed within FreshTel network is for download – 13.8Mb/sec, for upload – 2Mbps

Alternet brand, used by UHT earlier for fixed WiMAX, will cease its existance. Ukrainian newtwork FreshTel is a part of the global WiMAX holding, which develops networks of the forth generation on the territories of Russia, Western Europe and SouthEast Asia. Hi Gianni! I think you just need to go to the nearest Freshtel office or the place where you’ve bought your modem and ask their advice.
I have just bought a “modem”. unfortunately in my place the signal level is marginal. There is any plan to improve it or any additional antenna to buy? Thanks for a reply Gianni
