Kyiv water well ( byuvet )

Because of the bad condition if their equipment and lack of money for the maintenance, famouse Kiev byuvets (or in english – water wells) are being closed. “Kyivvodokanal” has already closed 81 byuvets in Solomyansky, Podilsky, partially Shevchenkivsky and Obolonsky districts! This process was started in July 2009.
There are about 224 byuvyet complexes in Kyiv.
“Kyivvodokanal” says that they are ready to resume the maintenance of byuvets if district administration provides financing and covers debts for the previous period, otherwise they couldn’t guarantee proper sanitary water standards and general technogenic safety. But officials say they don;t have money for this and will not have them in the nearest future.

Short note: Water Wells (byuvet) are located throughout Kiev and are popular especially with the Seniors of the City. They are usually built in a park like setting with several old style hand pumps to accommodate whoever may want to fill up from their favorite Aquifer. Information concerning each Well is posted onsight.
