Financial checks at the Ukrainian border

Financial checks at the Ukrainian border

Citizens of such CIS countries as Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan and 85 African, Asian and Middle East countries will be obliged to provide information on their financial state at the Ukrainian border starting from August 25, 2009.
Foreigners who study in Ukraine, the drivers of regular buses, the crewmembers of aircraft and ships, railroad workers, minors, and individuals who temporarily or permanently live in Ukraine, will be freed from cross-border checks on their ability to pay if they have respective certificates, according to the State Border Service of Ukraine. (UKRINFORM)
Pavlo Shysholin (first deputy head of the State Border Service) said that “there won’t be a frenzy to conduct massive checks at the state border control,” but “we shall check them selectively based on the information from the law-enforcement. There won’t be a situation when a customs officer decides to pick someone based on his own personal motives.”
In case foreigners fail to pass these financial checks, they will be sent back on the next flight home. They would have to pay for it on their own. There will not be any detention centers to accommodate their stay before departure.
All inspections will be video-taped and conducted by no less than two guards.
