Flower Clock on Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv, Ukraine

The biggest in Europe Flower Clock, which was created on Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv just before the Independence Day, 24th August, has already lost its hands…. It had a really short life: only two days!
“Kyivzelenstroi” blames Kievans and the guests of the Ukrainian capital. They say, the problem is not in the clock mechanism, but in Ukrainian mentality. People immediately wanted to take pictures on the clock hands, to walk on flowers, etc. No wonder the clock broke.
So, its mechanism was dismantled and taken for the repair. They say it’ll take not less than a month, because one of the gear wheel, which was produced in Cherkassy got broken. Seems, somebody not just walked on the hands, but rode on them! Specialists are not sure yet, how much it will cost to repair the clock.
Also, Kyivzelenstroi will have to restore the part of the trampled lawn and plant new flowers. That will take several thousand hryvnia.
That is why now you can see a policeman watching the biggest in Europe Flower Clock.
