Boryspil Airport promises to open the new Terminal F in September

New Terminal F of Boryspil Airport, Ukraine, designed for international flights, charters and low-cost flights were not open neither in April nor on the 24th of August at the Ukraine Independence Day, as it was scheduled before. The new tentative opening date is the first-second decade of September.

International Jazz Festival in Kyiv, Ukraine


International Jazz Festival «Jazz in Kiev 2009» will take place in Kyiv on 16, 17 and 18 October, 2009
The main concert stage will remain the same: International Center of Culture and Arts (Zhovtnevy Palats), where Grammy Award Winners Dave Holland and Al Jarreau peformed among others last year.

In 2009, musicians, whose works are an essential part of American and European jazz history will visit Ukraine’s capital. Famous Ukrainian jazzmen will take part in the festival as well. During six festival days it will be possible to listen to six bands.

On 16th October you’ll see:
- Polish Bester Quartet (in the past known as Cracow Klezmer Band, New York lable of John Zorin «Tzadik»).
- Mike Stern Band with Dave Weckl on drums, Chris Minh Doky – contrabass and Randy Brecker, the Grammy Awards winner for the best jazz album 2009 on trumpet.

On 17th October you’ll be able to listen to Ukrainian jazz music.
- Denys Dudko’s Quintet (contrabassist, ex-member of “Shid-Side” band)
- Svjatoslav Vakarchuk project “Vnochi” with well known Ukrainian jazz musicians Olexiy Saranchin, Denys Dudko and Bohdan Gumenyuk.

On the last festival day, 18th October 2009, you’ll see:
- Steve Gadd and Friends band with Steve Gadd on drums, Joey DeFrancesco – chamber, Paul Bollenback – guitar, and Ronnie Cuber – baritone saxophone.
The legendary American band Spyro Gyra will close the festival “Jazz in Kiev 2009″. Spyro Gyra during 35 years of their existance released more than 30 albums, which have been nominated for Grammy eleven times. With 10 million copies sold, they are among the most prolific as well as commercially successful groups of the scene. Among their most successful hit singles are “Shaker Song” and “Morning Dance”. Their music, which has been influential in the development of smooth jazz, combines jazz with elements of R&B, funk and pop music. Although generally considered to be more “jazz” than “smooth”, Spyro Gyra have been praised as skilled instrumentalists and for their live performances, which average nearly 100 per year.

All concerts will be hosted by Olexiy Kogan.

During the festival Kyivans and the guests of the capital will be able to visit master-classes of the famous jazzmen, club jamm sessions and after parties, as well as evenings of jazz cinematography with Leonid Goldshtein. National Ukrainian contest of jazz photography will take place during the festival days. Many well known Ukrainian photographers have already confirmed their participation in it.
