Koktebel Jazz Festival

Koktebel Jazz Festival

Don’t miss International music festival “Koktebel Jazz”, which will be held from 10th to 13th September, 2009 at the Black Sea coast in a small Crimean town Koktebel.
There will be shows on two stages: solo concerts will be on a small “Voloshynska” stage, and jazz and world-music bands will play on a “NU Jazz” stage, which was built last year.
Festival organizers for the seventh time want to prove that jazz is still alive, in spite of economical crisis and recently ruined festival “Svirzh”.
Art director of the producer’s center, invitee organizer and the festival presenter Alexey Kogan hope everything will be ok including the weather. So, you definitely can consider the option of combining sea swimming with the music listening during your Indian summer. Part of the festival program will be absolutely free. The organizers promise to charge only for the evening shows on NU Jazz stage from 19-00 till 4-00. It would also be possible to get a 3-day pass only for 300 hryvnia. One time ticket would cost 60 hryvnia. The festival representative Liliya Mlynarych said they’ve already sold 800-900 passes. The festival will be broadcasted on the First National TV channel.
The music format of the festival has already started to change since last year. Now, you could listen to not only jazz but world music as well. Festival organizers refer this music to Cocktebelle style.
This year headliner of the festival is a joint Ukrainian-Polish project Haydamaky+Voo Voo. There also will be Courtney Pine Band and Oi Va Voi from Great Britain. Oi Va Voi band musicians are Orthodox Jews with the mulatto soloist singing in Yiddish. But the majority of performers are from Ukraine and Russia: Alissidjazz from Moscow, Tequilajazzz from Saint Petersburg, Kharkiv jazz orchestra 7+1 under the direction of Sergey Davydov, Ukrainian musicians Tatyana Boyeva and Julia Roma, ethno-trio Troitsa from Belarus and freak cabare band “Serebryanaya Svadba”.

Short note: KOKTEBEL JAZZ FESTIVAL – is one of the biggest and most inspired open-air festivals in Ukraine and Russia. It was born in 2003 to stand against tasteless and superficial music, overflowing TV screens and newspaper pages. It was a private initiative of its founder Dmitry Kiselev (Russia) and fest’s “mom” – Liliya Mlinarych (Ukraine), who has served as unchanging head of Organising Committee throughout all years.
«KoktebelJazz» takes an active part in various charitable causes. In 2003, when the first festival took place, organisers have actively engaged in re-building Voloshyn embankment square opposite from M. Voloshyn’s museum in Koktebel. Throughout 2004-2005, they have continuously provided support to rebuild and refurnish museum itself. They have also given unique YAMAHA electro-piano as a gift to the local music school. This year, there will be a possibility to stay in tents during Jazz Festival. «Koktebel Jazz», together with camping-site «HYMYK», offers an opportunity to stay at the camping-site during the festival. It has a capacity to accommodate up to 600 people. While camping you can freely use all infrastructure offered by the camping-site. Price per person: 20 UAH per day (price includes the use of showers, toilets and security).
Camping-site «HYMYK» is situated in a picturesque place of Koktebel, approximately 30 meters from sea-side and 10 minutes walking distance from “Koktebel Jazz” main stage.
