View Tower in Kyiv

View Tower in Kyiv

Probably in a few years a big 250 meters high View Tower might appear next to the Friendship Arch (Arka Druzhby Narodiv) in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. It’ll look a little bit like Ostankino TV Tower in Moscow, Russia. Kyiv View Tower will be a central station of a ropeway, from which transparent cabins for 24 persons will run to European Square (Evropeiska Ploscha), Volodymyr Hill (Volodymyrska Girka), Maryinsky Park and Trukhaniv Island, says Infobud. This project is estimated at $200-300 million.
Architects have decided, that it will go underground on European Square, and they’ve already found a place for a station next to the Open Air Theatre in Maryinsky Park. It is interesting that not only cabins, but also glass fiber ropes, on which cabins will run 4 meters per second will be transparent. “It will look like people are sailing through the air,” – says Valeryi Shevchenko, the author of the project. On top of the Tower, there will be a viewing area. There also will be three restaurants: the revolving one, which will revolve on its axis within an hour, dance and VIP restaurants for 12 persons. Eight high speed elevetors will take the visitors to the restaurants and to the viewing area of the Tower. So, it would be possible, for example, to start your trip on European Square, get to the viewing area of the Tower, have a nice meal in one of the restaurants and then go to Trukhaniv Island.
Kyiv authorities are planning to start building in the nearest future, in order to finish construction by 2012.

But there’s also an alternative plan: the View Tower could be built on Trukhaniv Island and rope-way will go to Troyeschina, Petrivka, Gidropark and to the Friendship Arch. In this case, the Tower height will be 300 meters. ‘We are estimating the height of the Tower in such a way, so the restaurants would be above the clouds. Trukhanov Island is lower than the Right Bank of the river Dnipro, so the Tower should be higher,” says the architect.
Second variant of the Tower differs not only by its height. They are considering an option of building a hotel over there as well. So, the estimated cost differs by $100 million (first plan will be approx. $200 million, but the second one – $300 million)
Soon, Kyiv City Administration will introduce both projects to the public, so people would be able to vote for the one they like on the official Kyiv City Administration web-site.

By the way, Kyiv authorities are planning to build in Kyiv a huge Ferris wheel on Poshtova Ploscha or next to the Askol’d grave.
