Mayor of Kyiv Leonid Chernovetsky is going to ban sales of alcohol in the center of Kyiv

Sales of alcohol in the center of Kyiv will be banned
According to this program sales of alcoholic beverages will be banned in Kyiv center on such streets as Khreschatik, Baseina, Mykhayilivs’ka, Sofyivs’ka, Prorisna, Kostyol’na, provulok Shevchenka, Instytuts’ka, Bogdana Khmel’nytskoho, Gorodets’koho, Boulevard Shevchenko. At the same time it would be possible to get alcohol on Khreschatik Street only at special stores and not later than 11pm. It’ll be allowed to drink it only in the cafes.
According to the Kiev main expert in narcology Volodymyr Yry, it’ll be possible to buy strong alcoholic beverages (vodka, etc.) at stores only before 10pm. Bars and restaurants, located on the ground floors of the blocks of flats would have to stop selling it as well at the same time.
By 11pm 24/7 supermarkets and cafes / restaurants, which are not situated on the ground floors of the blocks of flats will have to stop selling alcoholic drinks. But all of this doesn’t apply to beer, as it is not considered to be an alcoholic drink.
Alcohol shouldn’t be sold closer than 100 meters to schools, kindergartens, hospitals and clinics as well as on beaches, stadiums and parks. It will not be allowed to sell alcoholic beverages at the markets (rynok), bus stations, internet-clubs and at any transport stops.
All of this will come into force only if the Mayor of Kyiv Leonid Chernovetsky signes this resolution.
In May 2009 Kyiv City Administration approved regulations to ban acohole sales at train stations, in the metro and dwelling houses of the capital.
