Museum on a submarine will appear in Kyiv
A real submarine SS-130 will be brought to Kyiv from Kherson, where a museum complex called “Peremoga” (Victory) dedicated to naval topics will be created. This submarine was given to Ukraine as a gift by Russia in 2000. It was brought from Sevastopol, Crimea to Kherson Shipbuilding Plant.
The chairman of the Ukrainian Association of Veterans-submariners Alexander Kuzmin informed about it and noted that in 2012 Kyiv for the first time during half of the century would host the World Congress of the Submariners.
By this time, it is planned to build a multistoried monument-boat on Rybalsky Island in Kyiv in order to represent it to the delegates of thirty countries.
“The fact that a month ago heads of delegations of the World Congress of Submariners in San Diego (California) have decided to hold the 49 th Congress in Kyiv, Ukraine. It is a great even for the image of Ukraine,” said Kuzmin.
According to him, now the challenge is to transport the vessel, which hasn’t been used for about ten years. In the first place it will require some metal for the construction of special pontoons. So, the submarine will be dragged on them to Kyiv through shipping locks.
It is planned to finish all works by EURO-2012. According to the plan Museum Complex will appear on Elektrykiv Street in Podil district.
The whole construction will be a 22 storied building, a part of which (20 square meters from the 4th to the 24th floor) will be used for offices, 425 square meters on the first two floors will include the Museum Complex and 485 square meters on the 3d floor will be given to the sailors club. There also will be a parking under the complex and on its roof there will be a cafe with a view terrace. Architects say that this whole complex will resemble a huge sail. Source: domik.net
