Ukraine joins European communication standards

Ukraine joins European communication standards

In Ukraine, starting on October, 14th, all mobile, local and international numbers will start from “0″ It means there is no need to dial “8″ before the phone number. Ukraine joins European communication standards.
Front “8″ in telephone numbers in Ukraine goes into the past. If you need to call Ukrainian mobile number, you’ll have to dial, for ex. just 050 for MTS or 067 for Kyivstar. If you’d need to call for ex. Odessa from Kyiv, you’ll have to dial just 0482 XX-XX-XX or 048 XXX-XX-XX* (* – Note, the difference in code depends on how many digits the telephone number has (in Odesa, Dnipropetrovs’k, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya, and some other cities. The reason is the change of the telephone system in the given cities): for ex. with the number 34-54-82 (6 digits) you should dial the code 0482, but with the number 325-64-75 (7 digits) you should dial the code 048).

To call internationally, you’ll have to dial “00″

These are the most radical changes in Ukrainian telecommunication space. It’s all being adjusted to EU standards, so there will be more numbers left for information and inquiry services, and also for the convience of foreigners in Ukraine.

So, now everybody in Ukraine has to get used to the new mode of dialing. During first three months mobile phone users will not feel too much of a difference, as mobile providers will try to make this transition as smooth as possible. So, either you start dialing the number from “8″ or “0″ , you’ll manage to get a hold of the person you are phoning to. But it will not last forever and after three months, starting on February, 1st only “0″ will work. So, you better start to remember it earlier!

All in-country telephone codes will stay the same, except Kyiv oblast. The code for Kiev oblast will be 45 and Kyiv city code will stay the same – 44.
Such innovations cost tens of millions of hryvnas for mobile providers, but they say they are technically ready for the change.
