New Terminal F of Boryspil Airport, Ukraine, designed for international flights, charters and low-cost flights were not open neither in April nor on the 24th of August at the Ukraine Independence Day, as it was scheduled before. The new tentative opening date is the first-second decade of September.

Foundation for Development of Ukraine is going to create unrivaled cancer hospital of European level on basis of Donetsk tumor center.

President of Foundation for Development of Ukraine (FDU) Rinat Akhmetov met employees of Donetsk Regional Tumor Center on 19 August, 2008 and informed them about decision to boost funding by UAH 115m for re-equipment and renovation of the facility. The total budget provided by the Foundation to fight cancer diseases in Donbass amounts to UAH 215m now with UAH 165m to be allocated on renovation of Donetsk Tumor Center and UAH 50m – on creation of a solid diagnostics center on basis of DOKTMO, Donetsk Regional In-Patient Medical Association.

The Foundation is overhauling the Tumor Center and equipping with the latest diagnostics and treatment facilities under its program Cancer Can Be Cured. Timely Cancer Diagnostics and Treatment in Ukraine. Within its framework the Foundation has announced the intention to buy a positron emission tomography scanner (PET/CT) as well as a laboratory for production of radiology pharmaceuticals, a gamma camera for the Donetsk Tumour Cen-ter. UAH 100m has been donated by the Foundation to this goal. The facilities will be commissioned in 2009. Later, the President decided to overhaul the Center and spend another UAH 115m for that. This includes also improving diagnostics and treatment in five city cancer dispensaries of Donetsk Region and four cancer departments in city and district hospitals. Thus, the whole system of battling oncology diseases in Donetsk Region will match the modern global practices.

Foundation will overhaul Center rooms, lines of communications, and roads, develop the land, reequip the out-patient hospital, improve living conditions for patients, buy medical vehicles, organize meals for patients, and ensure good working conditions for medical workers. Streamlining 11 operation rooms at the Tumor Center is of special attention and UAH 75m to be pro-vided to meet the objective.

The Foundation for Development of Ukraine targets to create a strong diagnostic potential and modern all-in center for timely detection and treatment of oncology diseases. To this end, it has bought first diagnostic equipment for DOKTMO including an immunochemiluminometric analyzer Immulite 1000, automated biochemistry analyser Olympus AU-640, and an equipment set for PCR Rotor-Dzhin-6000 at the total amount of over UAH1m. The Foundation will also buy a positron emission tomography scanner (PET/CT) for DOKTMO in 2009 that will significantly improve cancer diagnostics.

“We must ensure good conditions for effective treatment of oncology diseases and effective performance of the cancer service. For this reason, I decided to provide additionally UAH 115m to create a tumor center in Donetsk Region that meets European standards”, said President of Foundation for Development of Ukraine Rinat Akhmetov. “Moreover, I promise that I will reach every cancer dispensary and every cancer department in the region and create there the most modern and favourable conditions for effective work”.

Program Profile
The Program Cancer Can be Cured. Timely Cancer Diagnostics and Treatment in Ukraine was initiated by the President of Foundation for Development of Ukraine and launched on 10 July, 2008. It provides for the Foundation to purchase unrivalled in Ukraine equipment to fight cancer diseases and completely renovate the Donetsk Tumor Center.
Program budget comes to UAH 315m with UAH 215m to be spent to buy a positron emission tomography scanner (PET/CT), a gamma camera, and a cyber knife for the oncology service of Donetsk Region, as well as overhaul and equip the Donetsk Tumour Center, city and district cancer facilities in the region. The PET and gamma-camera will noticeably improve the quality of oncology illnesses diagnostics, while the cyber knife will help perform successful treatment of different tumour types (cancer, firstly) without operations, pain, in an out-patient treatment mode, and without traditional rehabilitation treatment.

A radiology center is being established in the National Institute of Cancer (Kiev) to host another PET, diagnostics and treatment facilities. The FDU has provided UAH 50m to this goal and spent another UAH 50m to fight cancer in western regions of Ukraine. The general meeting of cancer hospitals representing eight regions of the Western Ukraine decided to strengthen oncology system in the west through acquisition of the latest radiology equipment for each oncology center.

The equipment will be bought within a year. The project will be implemented within two years.
